Members of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson will host what has become an August favorite, the annual Sweet Corn Festival Sunday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 6:30 pm at Russell Park and the adjacent United Methodist Church parking lot.
The meal will feature sweet corn picked Sunday morning, along with pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and homemade fruit cobblers served with ice cream. Take-outs will be available with drive-thru service in the parking lot.
The Webb House will also be open for kids or tours.
Proceeds will go to Adopt A Family, the Greene County Early Learning Center, and the Webb House.
Tickets are available now from United Methodist Church members and at the church, or at the festival Sunday. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for youngsters 12 and younger. Children younger than 5 eat free.
In the past three years the church has been able to give $500 to each of the three chosen charities/organizations. The committee selects different charities each year, in addition to the Webb House.
“This is an event where our main purpose is reaching out in love to the community. All the food is donated so we can make a significant donation to our community,” said the Rev Julie Poulsen, pastor of the church.
